"Spirit of Commerce" by Carl August Heber "Commerce is represented by the nude winged figure of Mercury wearing Greek sandals and a loin cloth. He raises a caduceus in his proper right hand. Below him on his proper right, is a seated female figure holding a basket of fruit. She leans against a globe which is located at Mercury's feet. Below Mercury on his proper left, is a kneeling male figure who holds a small bale of goods. Above the figures is a cartouche featuring a prow of a ship and an eagle with wings spread. Battle axes, lances draped with bunting, a lion's head and a helmet appear just above." [ link ] |

"Spirit of Industry" by Carl August Heber "Industry is represented by a winged female figure who strides forward with her proper left arm extended upward. She hold a laurel sprig in her proper left hand. Below Industry on her proper right, is a kneeling nude male figure. He wears a worker's cap and holds a long-handled tool in his proper right hand. On Industry's proper left is a kneeling female figure. She looks up at Industry over her proper right shoulder and carries a sack over her proper left shoulder. Above the figures is a cartouche featuring a winged torso dressed in armor. Battle axes and banners fan out behind it and a gargoyle with winged ears is above it. A lion's head and cross weapons appear just above the torso." [ link ] |
