Many wholesale clothing stores used to line Orchard Street when this was a Jewish enclave many years ago, and this was known as a place to get a bargain. These days, Orchard Street is undergoing rapid, and radical change with many of those bargain stores closing and being converted into upscale boutiques, or bars, or simply demolished with a luxury condominium built in its place.

Jarmulowsky's Bank, on the corner of Canal and Orchard. The building was designed by Rouse & Goldstone, and finished in 1912. Built to last, the bank however barely survived several bank runs since it's founding in 1870. Jarmulowsky's Bank went bankrupt in 1918 along with other well known banks with the outbreak of World War I, and everyone wanting to withdraw their money.
