Built in 1914 for the newly chartered Bank of the United States, founded by Joseph S. Marcus. Although some were opposed to the bank's new name fearing it would confuse depositors [1], the ny state banking department authorized it anyway; The bank was among the first to fall during the crash of 1929. It had 400,000 depositors, and it's failure was the largest in history at that time [2] The building later housed the Hebrew Publishing Co until 1976.
