This building was originally built by the Independent Kletzker Brotherly Aid Association, a benevolent society "landsmanschaften" established in 1892 for people from Kletsk-Poland. The upper floors housed the landsmannschaft's synagogue [1,2].

The L-shaped building (5 ludlow, and 41 canal) was later sold to Max Kobre's Bank, who added several architectural flourishes including the terracotta beehives to the 2nd floor [3].

A jewish funeral parlor was later located here, followed by an italian funeral parlor, and today a chinese funeral parlor. The building was renovated in 2003.
